Call for Articles_
SCROOPE 19 seeks to develop the discourse around the topical issue of Power

We would like to invite you to contribute an article to Cambridge Architecture Journal: Scroope 19. This year’s theme focuses on aspects of power and how they inform both the way space is being produced in the contemporary urban landscape and our understanding of it. On the other hand, spaces not only reflect the intricate set of power relations that produced them but, more importantly, offer ways of redefining them, renegotiating their original premises and questioning their status of truth. We are interested in considering the interrelation between power and space in the design process beyond the strict boundaries of the professional field.

This is the third edition of Scroope to be published since the Diploma Studio (who traditionally ran the journal) was shut down here at the University of Cambridge. The editorial team is now composed of graduate students of the Department of Architecture. We are preserving the changed format of last years’ edition (B5) and the long-standing critical commitment to an interdisciplinary approach. This is Scroope’s ninetieth year, and we hope to come of age by responding to changes in the profession and in architectural education.

The submission can be a synthesis of words and images - we envisage an article of up to 2500 words including endnotes. The deadline for finished articles is Friday 29 of February 2007, to be supplied via email as a Microsoft Word document attachment for image light articles and CD for those pieces with high resolution print quality copyright-free graphics (300dpi, tiff, no compression). More information regarding this year’s theme, sample articles, formatting guidelines and Scroope back issues can be found at our temporary website: Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
